Stop Passing Down Pain: How Adults Are Failing the Children Who Can’t Speak Up

We’re living in a time where being young is more important than being wise.

Big Momma wants to be Big Sis.
Papa’s dressed like he’s still living his glory days.
Nobody wants to grow up, take responsibility, or set an example and our children are paying the price.

The family structure is falling apart.
And too many people think it’s just the new normal.
It’s not.

I Grew Up in the Chaos

My mother had four kids with three different men.
My father had four kids with four different women.
They weren’t bad people, they were doing what they knew.

But what they knew was broken.
And it broke me in ways I didn’t understand until I was grown.

I had no father nearby.
No male guidance.
No one who really understood me.

By the time I realized how much that hurt me, I was sitting in therapy trying to unpack 40 years of pain.

What’s Really Going On

Let’s be honest:

  • Too many men are running from fatherhood.
  • Too many women are convinced they can do it all alone.
  • Too many adults are chasing youth instead of owning maturity.

And the kids?
They’re the ones stuck in the middle.
Confused.
Hurting.
Trying not to upset the people who are supposed to protect them.

It’s not just bad parenting, it’s generational dysfunction.

What Caused This?

It didn’t start with social media.
It started when courts assumed mothers should always get the kids.
It continued when men accepted that as an excuse to disappear.
It got worse when society normalized single parenthood as if kids don’t need both parents.

Now, we’ve got adults acting like kids, and kids acting out because no one’s truly raising them.

We Can’t Keep Living Like This

The truth is uncomfortable but it’s necessary:

Your child should not pay for your mistakes.

You chose your partner.
You made that child.
And now you have to grow up and deal with the consequences not run from them.

What Needs to Change — Starting Now

1. Take Responsibility

You can’t change the past. But you can stop pretending it didn’t happen.
If you grew up broken, start healing. So your kids don’t inherit your pain.

2. Be Present

Even if you’re not with the other parent, show up. Physically, emotionally, financially.
Child support is not the same as parenting.

3. Embrace Being an Adult

You’re not here to impress your kids or party with them.
You’re here to lead them.

4. Tell the Truth

Stop calling dysfunction “normal.”
Stop lying to yourself about what’s okay and what’s not.

This Is for the Children Who Can’t Speak Up

Some kids know their parents are wrong.
But they stay quiet because they don’t want to cause more chaos.

They cry in secret.
They act out in school.
They grow up confused, angry, and ashamed.

I know, because I was that kid.

I’m 50 years old now, still undoing the damage.
But I won’t stay silent, and neither should you.

Final Word

It’s okay to have made mistakes.
It’s okay to be learning.
But it is not okay to keep letting your child suffer while you avoid the truth.

We can break the cycle — but only if we’re honest enough to admit it exists.

Your children deserve better.
Let’s give them that.
