Dear Younger Me,  

I know how much it hurts right now. You’re sitting there, frustrated, wondering why no one seems to get you in your family. You read the whole story, not just the headline and when you try to explain, you’re met with eye rolls, dismissive comments, and even laughter. Your family makes you feel stupid for seeing things differently, for asking questions, for digging deeper. But here’s the truth, you’re not the one who’s wrong.

Most People Only Read the Headlines

You’ve already noticed it, how people form strong opinions based on little information, how they argue without knowing the full story. It used to upset you because you cared about being understood. But here’s what I’ve learned. Everyone doesn’t have the same capacity or the same desire to understand. Some people don’t want to think critically. Some like to follow the crowd, stick to simple answers, or believe what makes them comfortable. That’s not your fault.  

They Made You Feel Small Because They Felt Small 

Your mother, your family, they didn’t like that you questioned things. Maybe it threatened them. Maybe they didn’t know how to handle someone who thought independently. Maybe control is more important to them than truth. But their reactions were never about you. Their insecurities, their fears, their need to keep things the way they were, is all their problem not yours.

You were never dumb. You were just surrounded by people who either couldn’t or wouldn’t see what you seeing. 

You Were Right All Along

Today, they tried it again. The side-eyes, the condescension, the same old game. But this time, it didn’t bother you. Why? Because now you understand. Their behavior isn’t about intelligence, it’s about fear. Fear of being wrong. Fear of losing control. Fear of someone being smarter than them.  

Stay Curious. Stay Confident.

You’ll realize how powerful it is to think for yourself. You’ll stop seeking their validation because you’ll know your worth isn’t determined by their approval. Just keep reading the full story. Keep asking questions. Keep trusting your mind.  

The world needs people like you,  who don’t settle for the headline.  

And as for them? Let them have their side-eyes and talk behind your back conversations. You’ll be too busy moving forward to look back.
